Addiction to video games, particularly the online interactive variety, is a growing phenomenon that affects people of all ages and professions. “The game manufacturers, especially in “WoW,” have built the game to make people put in time,” says Dieckmeyer. “If you’re not putting in hours and hours and hours, you’re not going to enjoy the game as much as people who do put in the time.” Dieckmeyer continued playing after graduation, even after getting a job and marrying his high-school girlfriend, named Christina. Dieckmeyer realized he was spending a quarter of his waking hours playing “World of Warcraft.” He tried quitting, but soon resumed.
